My goals were to help with the various activities concerning the different projects both in manual and intellectual way. Concerning the Madiba project during the morning I was teaching to the teenager Italian and IT class. During the afternoon classes, in the hospital, I was assisting the IT and sometimes the English teachers. Regarding the WaLi project, since I do not speak French I was mostly the photographer and kind of assistant of the other member…

[:en]My main goal was to have an experience in education with kids and to grow personally speaking. I met Madiba project in 2014 when I was in Cameroon for another internship in an NGO working in Human Rights fields. Already three years ago I was impressed of this project because I saw how much it was concrete and how much it could really change the situation. That’s why this year, I decided to come back to this country and to get part of this project. I expected to live in a local reality and to get in touch with a real Cameroonian village without…

Despite of some difficulties, it was interesting to see how a NGO in Africa is working and I learnt to learn out of my mistakes and mistakes of others. So I see it nevertheless positive as an experience where one can learn from. I also think that everyone did a lot of efforts for the project and everyone tried to give the best. The first days we spent at the school were used to deliver the same sessions like in the orphanage. In workshops adapted to the classes we implemented them. Afterwards we split us up. Everyone had one class to teach a language. I had the oldest children and tried to deliver them the German language. Therefore the teachers made us two hours available. So we spent Monday, Wednesday and Friday in school. Although was the Wednesday an exception because on Wednesday there was always the sport day. During the sport day we delivered German games like “British bulldog one two three”…

My personal goal was to have an impact on the children, teach them subjects that would be usefull and inspire them. Also encourage them to be curious and interested in the world different cultures, news and information, but mostly to study, that way they can change their life for better, to be ambitious and think big. I also wanted to see the real life in Africa and visit the country that is known for being Africa in miniature. On Monday and Friday mornings we gave health, language and culture sessions in the school (my sessions in particular were washing hands…

My expectations of the project If I am honest my expectations of the project were quite naive. I had travelled alot before and I think I expected the project to be like my previous experience. I did not consider the working aspect of the internship at all. I applied to come on the project to meet people from different countries and experience a completly differenet culture. I wanted to give myself a personal challenge to see how I would cope lving a very basic lifestyle, far away from home for such a long time! After speaking to Sarah I thought…
